Don't Play With Matches

My work focuses largely on what I call iconic imagery. Iconic imagery refers to objects or scenes that are part of the popular culture and are universally recognizable, whether Adidas shoes, Ray-Ban sunglasses or a woman sitting at an idealized Southern California pool. These images intrigue me because while we may not have direct experience with them, they are still familiar to us and often invoke an involuntary emotional response. Because these are contemporary images, I convey them in a contemporary painting style - minimalist and graphic. My paintings are in private collections throughout the U.S. and my work has been shown in solo and group shows at various galleries and museums, most recently The deYoung Museum in San Francisco. My art education has been reflective of the many places that I have lived and includes the San Francisco Art Institute, the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Kansas City Art Institute.  I have studied with seminal painters such as Nathan Olivera and Frank Lobdell and was guided in my appreciation of art history by Kirk Varnedoe (former MOMA chief curator).
